Dr. Louis Rowitz has built a unique career in academia via public health practice issues and initiatives. He was the Director of the University of Illinois Center for Public Health Practice until his retirement on May 1, 2012. He was also the first Director of one of the two initial state public health leadership institutes beginning in 1991. Dr, Rowitz has previously published two public health leadership books with Jones and Bartlett Publishers, PUBLIC HEALTH LEADERSHIP:PUTTING PRINCIPLES INTO PRACTICE(THIRD EDITION,2014) and PUBLIC HEALTH FOR THE 21ST CENTURY: THE PREPARED LEADER(2006). A new book entitled ESSENTIALS OF PUBLIC HEALTH LEADERSHIP will be published in 2017. Dr. Rowitz has given many leadership workshops around the country and in Europe over the last decade. He is also an executive coach for governmental and not-for profit leaders and managers. In addition, Dr. Rowitz has served as a technical assistance consultant to organizations in the governmental and not for profit sector. Dr. Rowitz also served on the Board of Scientific Counselors for the Coordinating Office for Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
